In a previous article, the benefits of using tiles were highlighted and how choosing the right tile can elevate a space, especially for smaller studio suites. In this next instalment, the focus is on colour selection. Bear in mind that the right hue and shine can make all the difference.
Dark, bright or neutral shades
Light coloured tiles will make a room feel bigger by creating a fresh and open visual impact. Tiles with a darker shade can be used to create accents in a room and to enhance a cosy vibe. A clever mix of both shades can add a touch of colour, adding depth without making the space seem small or claustrophobic.
Shiny or Matte
Glossy tiles will have the effect of bouncing light around a room, visually expanding the area. Matte finish tiles will absorb light, giving the room a much softer feel, accentuating comfort and cosiness. When choosing, bear in mind the amount of lighting available to each room, whether natural or artificial.
Keeping it clean
Some colours will show the dirt very easily. Shiny black tiles will require constant wiping down to ensure it has the desired effect on a space. White tiles will show foot and palm prints and will similarly need constant attention. Go for matte finishes if ease of maintenance is a priority.
