HCK Capital Group Bhd is pleased to welcome property development veteran Ong Chou Wen to its fold.
Ong has been appointed as Deputy Managing Director with effect from Dec 19, 2016.
At 46 years old, Ong has acquired encompassing experience in the real estate industry, having helmed senior management positions in a number of major companies.
Prior to joining HCK, Ong was the Chief Operating Officer of Southville City Sdn Bhd, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Mah Sing Group Berhad. At Southville City, he was responsible for re-planning and re-branding of the 428 acres of Southville City Masterplan, including its future developments with enhanced GDV worth more than RM11.0 billion.
Ong pursued his tertiary education in architecture. He received his first Diploma in Architecture from University Technology Malaysia in 1992. He went on to pursue BA (Hons) and diploma leading to a MA degree in Architecture from University of Sheffield in the United Kingdom, where he graduated with commendations in his thesis and design. Ong distinguished himself at the university by winning the Gradus Prize for Architectural Detail, and the Kenneth Murta Prize in Tropical Architecture.
Ong started his career in 1996 with BEP Arkitek Sdn Bhd as Project and Design Architect before moving to Hong Kong’s Tem Fatt Architectural Design Services Ltd. as Chief Resident Architect a year later. At Tem Fatt, he headed the architectural team involved in the development of the Landmark Menara in Johor Bahru, a mixed-use commercial complex.
Ong’s first exposure to project development was with Putrajaya Holdings, the property development subsidiary of Petronas Group of Companies. Over eight years in Putrajaya Holdings, Ong took on a variety of portfolios, ranging from Project Architect, Design Manager, Technical and Operations Manager, and Project Manager.
Ong played a major role as Project Director of Development Division at UEM Sunrise Bhd, which he joined in 2006. He was appointed Company Director for Sunrise Innovation Sdn Bhd, Sunrise Incubation Sdn Bhd and Aurora Towers at KLCC Sdn Bhd. In this capacity, he oversaw the development of numerous projects, including 11 Mont’Kiara, AngkaraRaya at KLCC, and the inaugural Sunrise branded mixed-use development namely Teega in Puteri Harbour, Nusajaya. He was also the Project Director for MK Banyan, MK Meridin and 10 Mont’Kiara developments.
Before joining Mah Sing, Ong was the Founding Director of property development consulting firm Orientis Solutions, which was incorporated in Malaysia since 2013. The company provided development and project management consultancy services for a variety of projects, including mixed-use commercial to industrial townships developments both locally and abroad.
Ong is a registered graduate member of Pertubuhan Arkitek Malaysia and Lembaga Arkitek Malaysia.
