The Construction Industry Development Board (CIDB) media construction awards 2016 on Nov 18 saw Focus Malaysia winning third prize in the print media category. The paper’s associate editor Sonia Ramachandran walked away with RM2,000, a trophy and certificate for her article titled JPN tackling abandoned housing projects head-on.
Works Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof presented the awards in conjunction with the Work Ministry’s media appreciation night at the Aloft Kuala Lumpur Sentral Hotel.
The awards, which were organised by CIDB along with the Malaysian Press Institute (MPI), aims to honour the contribution of journalists in covering issues related to the construction industry.
CIDB chief executive Datuk Ahmad Asri Abdul Hamid said the role of the media in covering issues and current developments in the construction industry is important as it informs the public and disseminates information about the achievements and contributions of the industry towards the nation’s development.
Submissions of the awards were for three categories, namely, print, electronic and online broadcasting as well as photography.
Eleven media recipients from the electronic and print industries walked away with awards on that night with first prize winners for each category receiving RM5,000, second prize RM3,000 and third prize RM2,000, respectively.
