Hiichiikok Foundation recently obtained approval from Jabatan Kebajikan Masyarakat (JKM). Unlike the set-up of other childcare home, the Home took an unconventional approach by focusing the efforts on obtaining approval from the Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) and Jabatan Bomba first prior to the application to the Social Welfare Department (JKM).
Staying true to its vision to create a conducive living environment for underprivileged children through a comprehensive safety procedures and practices, the Home recognised that without the support of DBKL and Jabatan Bomba, a direct application to JKM would have resulted in a rejection due to strict compliance to the childcare guidelines.
The Home, located off Jalan Ipoh, Kuala Lumpur, is equipped with good amenities including a kitchen stocked with food from well-wishers, a mini playground and learning material donated by the public. It is also staffed by a team of experienced care-givers, who are assisted by the occasional volunteers.
Apart from ensuring the physical well-being of the children, special attention is also given to their emotional and social growth. This includes providing the children with external counselling, yoga lessons and outings, among others conducted by regular volunteers.
The Home can accommodate up to 30 children which is in line with JKM’s childcare minder and child ratio.
