Goodbyes are hard for French volunteers and children at Home

It only seemed like yesterday when HCK Foundation director Diana Ooi was at the KLIA to receive two volunteers from Lilee, France – Alix Roquette and Anais Falque.

Alix (medical student) and Anais (dentistry student) came to Kuala Lumpur on June 30, 2015 to help out at the Hiichiikok Home for Children Care. They taught the children at the Home about hygiene, dental care and English in a very innovative way.

Their evenings were spent sharing their life experiences about where they live, their education and their ambitions. These were a real eye opener for the children at the Home.

During their three-week stay, they slept under the same roof, ate the same food and spent their time to see a vast improvement in the children’s command of the English language.

“Children, Sister Alix and Sister Anais will be leaving us tomorrow,” Ooi announced. “What? So soon?” exclaimed the children.  There were moments of sadness.  The evenings were spent with Alix and Anais giving the children words of encouragement.

The goodbyes on July 20 morning was hard for all at the Home. There were hugs and sobs, and much as we don’t want to say goodbye, we had to. Thank you, Alix and Anais. We will definitely miss you.
